Peripheral immunity is associated with the risk of incident dementia

Background Central immunity components especially microglia in dementia have been well studied and corresponding immunotherapy gradually caught the attention. However, few studies focused on peripheral dementia. Method To address issue, we examined longitudinal association between incident markers encompassing immune cell counts, their derived ratios including neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte (PLR), systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) lymphocyte-to-monocyte (LMR), utilizing data of 361653 participants from UK Biobank (UKB). Result During a median follow-up 8.99 years, 4239 developed The results revealed that increased innate were associated with higher risk (per SD increment hazard [HR]; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.14; 1.09-1.19 for neutrophils, 1.16; 1.11-1.20 NLR 1.11; 1.07-1.16 SII), while adaptive lower (0.93; 0.90-0.97 lymphocytes 0.94; 0.90-0.98 LMR).
